Developing confidence, skills and a pathway into rugby
Our T1 Rugby programme gives primary school pupils the opportunity to learn, enjoy and develop their rugby skills in a fun, inclusive and non-contact environment.
Across the academic year, LWSP will work with schools through a four-week programme of in-school T1 Rugby delivery, helping pupils develop their understanding of the game, build confidence and improve their rugby skills. We aim to work with three schools each half term, focusing on schools located close to local rugby union clubs.
By working closely with schools and local clubs, we aim to create a clear pathway for pupils to continue playing rugby beyond the programme. At the end of each four-week block, pupils will have the opportunity to put their new skills into practice at a celebration festival hosted at a local rugby club. This gives pupils the chance to experience playing in a club environment and introduces them to the opportunities available within their local rugby community.
What’s included?
As part of the programme, participating schools will receive an Allianz Kick Start Pack, providing teachers with the equipment and resources they need to continue delivering T1 Rugby after the programme has finished.
Each pack includes:
- 🏉 10 England-branded Gilbert rugby balls
- 👕 15 England Rugby-branded bibs
- 🔺 Cones
- 💨 Ball pump
- 📚 Six-week T1 Rugby session plan created by England Rugby
The session plans provide teachers with a ready-to-use programme, helping schools to continue developing pupils’ rugby skills and giving more children the opportunity to get involved in the sport.
Rugby for everyone
T1 Rugby is designed to be inclusive, accessible and enjoyable for all pupils, regardless of previous rugby experience. As a non-contact format of rugby, it provides a great introduction to the sport while developing key skills such as passing, movement, communication, teamwork and decision-making.
The programme is built around the values of Enjoyment, Teamwork, Respect, Discipline and Sportsmanship, helping pupils develop both on and off the pitch.
