FA Girls Partnership

‘The Youth Sport Trust and The Football Association have recruited a network of education-based partnerships with schools throughout England. Known as ‘The FA Girls’ Football School Partnerships supported by Barclays’, they will create strategic partnerships with families of schools that are committed to the growth and development of girls’ football.’ (Youth Sport Trust) The West Leeds SSP is one of only three partnerships in West Yorkshire to be leading on this project.

All schools which engage in the project will be given the opportunity “to engage, excite and encourage girls to become more physically active. This will see them benefit from improved wellbeing, develop their confidence and competence to play football at school and in a community setting, and make football a part of their life” (YST)

The offer for primary schools is specifically aimed to increase the physical competence of primary aged girls through programmes, such as ‘Active Play Through Storytelling’ to ensure a girl’s first experience of football is positive.

Secondary schools will take part in the ‘Game of Our Own’ program which aims to increase secondary aged girls’ self-esteem, confidence and self-belief, in addition to their engagement in football-related activities through a variety of roles – player, leader, supporter etc.
